Hail Agrippa & Actium

Did you watch our club refight the Battle of Actium with 1/1200 scale ancient naval galleys and wish you could try this out at home? We have you covered! We're sharing our complete scenario, along with custom unit labels, for free over on Patreon. You do NOT need to be a paying patron to access this post. It's available for everyone right here.

In addition to the scenario, we're also sharing our club's custom quick reference sheet for "Hail Agrippa", the rules we used to fight Actium. This is a supplement written by Mark Backhouse in an old issue of Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy magazine. The WSS team has unlocked Mark's article and made it available here, for free. This article allows you to take Warlord Games' popular "Hail Caesar" land rules and easily convert them into a great naval game. Same rules, same concepts, same fun!

On our Patreon page you'll find the scenario and our QRS. If you want to hear directly from Mark Backhouse, we also have an interview with him, where Greg and Mark talk about his inspiration for "Hail Agrippa."

'Valour & Fortitude' Scenario

We've really enjoyed the free Napoleonic rules released by Perry Miniatures called "Valour & Fortitude." This free rule set allows you to play division (or small corps) sized actions with buckets of six-sided dice and a single page QRS. Today, we're offering up a historical scenario we created in the club for the Battle of Montebello in June 1800. The scenario includes a map, OOBs, special rules, and base labels.

And, in addition to the scenario, we also present our revised Quick Reference Sheet for the rules. This is the QRS we use in the club...it's more comprehensive and user friendly (we think). Don't forget, "Valour & Fortitude" is available 100% free from the Perry website for you to play the full game!

As part of our 60,000 subscriber celebration (THANK YOU to everyone who subscribes to the channel!) we played a unique scenario, running the same engagement back-to-back with different rule sets. We revisited our E102 Foy episode from 2018 and zoomed out to battalion level to play Crossfire and Fireball Forward. In the video, you saw both rule sets in action! As part of our "On to Richmond" series we set up a tabletop wargame for a small but iconic action on the Virginia Peninsula called The Battle of Eltham's Landing. A confused meeting engagement, this battle saw Hood's Texans begin their meteoric rise as one of the crack units in the Confederate army. And now you can play our scenario for free! Age of Sail, Vikings & Sharp Practice

It's just days until Christmas, making this our fourth and final scenario giveaway! This week we have three fantastic new scenarios for you and your friends to try. Miles wrote an Age of Sail scenario for the only major French naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars, the Battle of Grand Port. This is a small frigate action presented in a way for you to tailor it to your ruleset of choice (ours, for the record, is Fire as She Bears).

Tom wrote a Sharp Practice AWI scenario focusing on the intense skirmishing in New Jersey during the winter forage wars. You can download his scenario below! And finally, Keith prepared a brand new Ravenfeast scenario for a Viking raid on a monastery. "Ring the Bells" can be found on the official Ravenfeast website right here!

Free AWI Scenario!

Last week we aired our epic, 4-table Brandywine wargame with the American Battlefield Trust! We had a blast playing this game on the battlefield using a streamlined set of rules we developed called Live Free or Die. The game was originally based on Andy Callan's brilliant 1987 article, Loose Files & American Scramble. If you find the homebrew and rule writing process interesting, we think you'll love our current podcast series tracking the writing and playtesting in real time.
