Gallipoli Orders

5/1/2025

During Part 1 of our Gallipoli wargame event, Josh mentioned the written pre-game orders our top overall commanders issued to their subordinates. On the allied side, retired NZ general Rhys Jones played as Sir Ian Hamilton. On the Turkish side, YouTube superstar Griffin Johnsen (the Armchair Historian) played as Mehmet Esat Bulkat, III Corps commander.

Rhys and Griffin served in remote roles, communicating only with the game umpire (Josh). They received maps and intelligence reports, but never saw the miniature tabletops or led troops in the field. They did issue written orders to their subcommanders, and now we're sharing those orders for the first time! Griffin's orders include his detailed deployment maps, as well.

If you enjoyed our 10mm Helm's Deep wargame, we are happy to share our scenario to try at home with your friends! We wrote and playtested this scenario for GW's 2000 rules, Warmaster. The game was shelved by GW over a decade ago, but a fan-supported version called Warmaster Revolution is available for free download. So not only can you try our scenario, you can also grab a free PDF of the game rules from the Revolution website!

Free Blucher Campaign (1809)

1/13/2025

Last week Tom & Greg reviewed the 2015 big battle rules Blucher, published by Sam Mustafa. If you missed the review, CHECK IT OUT, but in that review we briefly mentioned our old 1809 Danube campaign. This was a large campaign event run in the club ten years ago, organized and developed by Tom when Blucher first came out. Back then, we were all very excited about the new game and wanted to tackle a monster campaign.
Well, it seems some of you keyed in on that topic and have asked to see the campaign rules. Let no one ever say Little Wars TV doesn't deliver you Free Stuff! Tom has agreed to give away his campaign and make it available right here for anyone who wants to try. This includes his Blucher theater map, the rules, and an Excel file with the orders of battle.

All three files are available below!

Battle of Mayloyaroslavets AAR

12/26/2024

On Christmas morning we posted a surprise wargame video, recapping a 6mm Napoleonic battle using the Blucher rules. We refought Mayloyaroslavets from October 1812, a critical action early in Napoleon's retreat from Moscow. This bloody, all day affair pitted Eugene's corps against Dokhturov's corps, with Napoleon and Kutuzov feeding in additional formations throughout the day.

Watch this surprise wargame HERE!

Acre Free Scenario

If you enjoyed our 10mm Acre wargame on YouTube, you may be interested in playing this exact scenario at home. Thanks to scenario designer Chris Grau, you can!

Chris shared his research and orders of battle for you to play. We used a big battle Lion Rampant conversion (which we'll share tomorrow)  but you could use another rule set.

Our thanks again to Chris for organizing this wargame! You can see Chris on our channel doing painting tutorials, but he has his own YouTube channel with many more painting videos. It's called Feldgrau Productions. Perhaps you'll enjoy this recent video where he shows off his 10mm Saracen army in greater detail!

Shogun Optional Rules

If you're of a certain generation, you may know this game as Milton Bradley's "Shogun." Slightly younger gamers will remember it as "Samurai Swords." And the youngest among you have probably only heard of "Ikusa!"

All three are the same game, played on the same map of Japan (but with slightly different artwork). When we play this game in the club, we're fond of using a number of fan-made updates and house rules. The optional rules we enjoy are available here as a free PDF. The event cards are probably our single favorite optional rules, as they add a ton of flavor and new depth to the gameplay!

Hail Agrippa & Actium

8/8/2024

Did you watch our club refight the Battle of Actium with 1/1200 scale ancient naval galleys and wish you could try this out at home? We have you covered! We're sharing our complete scenario, along with custom unit labels, for free over on Patreon. You do NOT need to be a paying patron to access this post. It's available for everyone right here.
Picture
In addition to the scenario, we're also sharing our club's custom quick reference sheet for "Hail Agrippa", the rules we used to fight Actium. This is a supplement written by Mark Backhouse in an old issue of Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy magazine. The WSS team has unlocked Mark's article and made it available here, for free. This article allows you to take Warlord Games' popular "Hail Caesar" land rules and easily convert them into a great naval game. Same rules, same concepts, same fun!

On our Patreon page you'll find the scenario and our QRS. If you want to hear directly from Mark Backhouse, we also have an interview with him, where Greg and Mark talk about his inspiration for "Hail Agrippa."

'Valour & Fortitude' Scenario

We've really enjoyed the free Napoleonic rules released by Perry Miniatures called "Valour & Fortitude." This free rule set allows you to play division (or small corps) sized actions with buckets of six-sided dice and a single page QRS. Today, we're offering up a historical scenario we created in the club for the Battle of Montebello in June 1800. The scenario includes a map, OOBs, special rules, and base labels.

And, in addition to the scenario, we also present our revised Quick Reference Sheet for the rules. This is the QRS we use in the club...it's more comprehensive and user friendly (we think). Don't forget, "Valour & Fortitude" is available 100% free from the Perry website for you to play the full game!

As part of our 60,000 subscriber celebration (THANK YOU to everyone who subscribes to the channel!) we played a unique scenario, running the same engagement back-to-back with different rule sets. We revisited our E102 Foy episode from 2018 and zoomed out to battalion level to play Crossfire and Fireball Forward. In the video, you saw both rule sets in action! And now, we're offering up the details of the Crossfire scenario for you to try at home.
