Our club has been a very active participant in HMGS conventions for decades, running games for the shows. HMGS has 3 flagship events per year -- Cold Wars, Historicon, and Fall In. You've probably seen our video recaps of the shows since we started filming Little Wars TV. Show attendance has been declining for years. That's not just anecdotal observation--you can refer to attendance records in the attached paper. So what can be done about it? |

Today on the Free Stuff page, Ed is pleased offer you all the details required for both scenarios, which you can play independently of each other. Each engagement includes 4 PDF files with briefings and OOBs for the opposing sides. The OOBs are structured for Fistful of TOWS 3, a game we've previously reviewed on the channel four years ago. With some tweaking, you could certainly port Ed's orders of battle to a different rule set of your preference! ![]()

And in addition to the free game, we're also posting the complete scenario. It includes the exact order of battle and scenario rules we used in the YouTube video, including a full layout of the Alamo complex. Once again, we want to give a special "THANK YOU" to Rich, Ron, and David for making this freely available to wargamers around the world! The 3 page PDF can be downloaded below: ![]()
March 31, 2023 UPDATE: A new version of the Alamo Ruleser (linked above) has updated some typos and offered a clearer explanation for recycling Mexican reserves.
This week on YouTube, we brought you along as we crashed Alan Perry's game room to check out his amazing garage set up. But we also had the chance to sit down and talk to Alan and Michael for a wide-ranging chat. Parts of that interview appear in this week's YouTube video, but we wanted to upload a great bonus segment here on the 'Free Stuff' page. This segment is all about campaigns--how to run them, how the Perry's play them, and tips for improving your tabletop campaigns at home. And if you're wondering what these guys are playing on that lovely, 28mm Napoleonic table in Alan's game room....it's "Valour & Fortitude," of course! It's a free Napoleonic game we've been talking about on our channel and you can check it out for free right here.

The Ravenfeast game rules are already free as a skirmish-level Dark Ages game. But we've expanded upon them with our "big battle" supplement to add a few new twists. The core mechanics all remain the same, but add a command and control element to represent the challenge of leading large, early medieval armies, We also include the scenarios, maps, orders of battle, and unique scenario rules. The free PDF supplement even includes terrain and modelling tips to get you started! We've been working on this project for months and can't wait to share it with everyone! If you already have the Ravenfeast core rules and JUST need the supplement, a direct link to the "big battle" PDF is below. You can always visit the official Ravenfeast website to check out all of our free downloads and bonus material. ![]()
We have plenty of bonus coverage with Professor Kelly DeVries as part of our 1066 series! Next week, check back here for more insight from our expert guest AND the free "big battle" supplement for Ravenfeast! We'll be giving you all the rules and scenarios for 1066 in one very sharp PDF. ![]() In our Band of Brothers Crossfire/Fireball Forward video episode, we showcased a new custom ground mat we made for the scenario. For our "Free Stuff" page members we're offering a photo tutorial on how you can make this style mat at home yourself! Supplies Needed--1 sheet of teddy bear fur (plush felt) --4 tubes of white latex PLUS silicone caulk --1/2" flat paint brush --1 tube of cheap acrylic craft paint for the roads --white spray paint --light grey spray paint --dark brownish/gray spray paint When the mat is complete it's actually quite heavy! Remember, there are four entire tubes of caulk applied to it! We complete the tabletop by adding on loose scatter terrain, such as buildings, fences, stone walls, trees, bits of dead lichen, and haystacks. The final product is a pretty awesome looking table! It's a custom mat, but when you're done the game, you can just remove the loose scatter and roll up the mat for easy storage. The caulk doesn't crack or peel off. For us, this was a very successful experiment in making our own terrain mat!
