'Valour & Fortitude' Scenario

We've really enjoyed the free Napoleonic rules released by Perry Miniatures called "Valour & Fortitude." This free rule set allows you to play division (or small corps) sized actions with buckets of six-sided dice and a single page QRS. Today, we're offering up a historical scenario we created in the club for the Battle of Montebello in June 1800. The scenario includes a map, OOBs, special rules, and base labels.

And, in addition to the scenario, we also present our revised Quick Reference Sheet for the rules. This is the QRS we use in the club...it's more comprehensive and user friendly (we think). Don't forget, "Valour & Fortitude" is available 100% free from the Perry website for you to play the full game!

* JANUARY 2023 UPDATE: We've added some clarification to the starting deployment for both sides, including a revised map with deployment details! The scenario PDF is updated accordingly.

Looks interesting. Though the initial dispositions are not clearly stated in the pdf:
Are O'Reilly's and Erbach's brigades on the field and potentially garrisoning the towns already?
Does Watrin enter from A on Turn 1 or are his brigades already deployed on the table?

We updated the PDF to clarify!

In the QRS ,did you mean to make attack columns (a unit 3+ ranks deep) vulnerable to musketry, not just artillery?

Not intentionally, no! Probably should just be artillery, as the original game intended. We tried to make as few changes to the actual mechanics as possible, minus the ranges. We like playing in 15mm with more space to maneuver (thus the smaller movement)

Thanks for this from New Zealand, has inspired me to give these rules a try.

I gave them a spin today. There is a surprisingly large amount of 'stuff' going on for the size of the rules. I really like them so far, but that is just one battle. Of course, now I need more miniatures...

Hi Little Warriors!

Our group playtested this yesterday in preparation for a demo game on ANZAC day which is a public holiday here in New Zealand.

A couple of questions:

1. Do the individual brigades all have a leader stand? For example Watrin starts the game deployed at 'A" with Mahler's and Gency's brigades. Do we have a stand for Watrin and for Mahler and Gency or just for Watrin? If it's the former does Watrin act as Army Leader until the arrival of Lannes when command is handed over to the latter? The same would apply to Vogelsand and O'Rellly and Erbach.

2. On the turn a brigade arrives does it activate automatically? We played that it did int he interests of speeding up play.

Thanks for a great scenario - we'll post a battle report here https://www.facebook.com/historycentral

John

I am curious if you made any adjustments to the units. This battle takes place in 1805, but the V&F army lists for the French and Austrians are for 1812-1815 and 1809-1815, respectively, and both armies went through major re-organizations and reforms in the interim, especially the Austrians.

Er...it's 1800 not 1805. The army lists provided with the scenario do make some adjustments. We made some more for our game on ANZAC Day (which we didn't finish on the day). We made it that every infantry unit could form square; and all but light troops could skirmish (light troops can adopt open order etc as per the special rules in V&F). We found it impossible to reach a satisfactory conclusion in three hours. The French had taken Rivalta, routing O'Reilly, but, even after delays Austrian reinforcements had formed a line anchored on Casteggio and Victor had only just arrived! We intend to resume hostilities on 7th May, having photographed our non permanent set up, and to provide an AAR then.
