Miniature Wargaming: The Movie (Director's Cut)

"Miniature Wargaming: The Movie" is the first feature-length documentary film about the tabletop wargaming hobby. Those who know the backstory surely remember the Kickstarter campaign (both of them!) to get this film into production. While the documentary was delivered to Kickstarter backers in late 2018, it's only recently become available to stream at home. We had a chance to speak with Joseph Piddington, the director and producer, and this is the complete interview, which sheds light on many questions raised in our film review.
Portions of this interview appear in our review video, but members of our Free Stuff page can now enjoy exclusive access to the "director's cut" of that conversation...which is to say, it's uncut! Our thanks again to Joe for sharing his film with us and sitting down to chat about the experience!

Pretty interesting. It seems like the questions you asked have been asked by others. I wonder if people are going in with an expected result. Do you know anyone who's not a gamer who's watched it?

Lisa the wife who is not much of a war gamer was such a trooper for watching the movie. Her take on it was there should have been much more about what is miniature war gaming and she felt the lives of the war-gamers were interesting but it overshadowed the war game hobby. She liked the time line and history and felt more of that would have been better. She loved the part on how the hobby can help people with PTSD. Over all it was heart felt and she wished it was a little happier as she wanted me to order little round head fantasy figures to help the one persons business she felt so bad for him. Three stars out of five.

A bit worrying that Joseph regularly calls wargaming 'the industry'. It's not an industry, it's a hobby, and its great attraction is that it is still a grass roots hobby which wargamers make for themselves.

Manufacturers and sellers come and go, the hobby remains.
