SARDINIA, 215 BC. In the wake of Hannibal's crushing victory at Cannae, the myth of Roman invincibility in Italy seemed to slip away. Tribes and cities on the mainland began opening their gates to Hannibal, and the nearby island of Sardinia was no exception. Sardinia provided large amount of grain to feed Rome and many of the local farmers saw an opportunity to break free from Roman domination. A revolt broke out and the rebels appealed to Carthage for help. By the time Carthage's 15,000-man army of liberation arrived, the island's Roman preator had already defeated a small rebel army. Can Hasdrubal the Bald rally enough surviving rebels to eject the Romans from Sardinia?
